1. Stay
close to the microphone. Don’t stray more than
seven or eight feet from the microphones or recording equipment.
Face to their table and look down or away from the microphone
while reading their cites. The most brilliant objection or motion
will not go on to the next Court unless the transcriptionist
can hear it
2. Be
sure witnesses speak clearly and toward the microphone.
Remember that the answer has to be loud enough to register on
the recorder. It may be obvious what the answer was from other
parts of the transcript, but we can’t type it if we can’t
hear it.
3. Spell
names on the record, if possible. Gardner is an example
of what seems a simple name, but it can also be spelled Gardiner
or Gardener and is easily confused with Garner. Without a spelling
on the record, you will get our best guess. Long and/or unusual
names should be pronounced carefully and spelled if necessary.
4. Order
Early. Delivery time is approximately one month from
the receipt of your order. We will turn the transcripts around
to you as quickly as possible. But please be realistic. If you
mail your order on the 16th and need it back by the 23rd, you
need to notify us and get a price quote for expedited delivery.
We will have to get the tape, put you ahead of all the other
orders, and arrange a special mailing to get it back to you
in time.
